Steel Shot

Steel Shots: A High-Performance Abrasive

Steel shots are steel particles with high carbon content. They are spherical in structure and are used for a variety of processes such as surface cleaning, polishing, grinding, scouring, abrading, material removal, etc. They are one of the most effective ways of preparing a surface before painting or coating. Blast Core sources high-quality steel shots from reputable manufacturers and supplies them all over the Middle East, earning the title of trusted steel shot supplier.

Steel Shots As Abrasives

Steel shots are used as abrasives across industries such as electronics, automotive, construction, and manufacturing. They are used in shot blasting machines for excellent surface finishes.

The common uses for steel shots are:

  • Paint removal
  • Blast cleaning
  • De-flashing
  • Coating removal
  • Shot peening

Its high carbon levels increase hardness and life length. Steel shots are recyclable, making them a more affordable and environmentally conscious choice compared to glass powder or silicon carbide.

There are two classifications of steel shots.

1- High-carbon steel shots: Very hard, but can crack

2- Low-carbon steel shots: Longer service span

Even though they clean in similar ways, they have different mechanical properties and life lengths. The hardness of steel shots is measured on the Rockwell scale and typically ranges between 40 and 65 HRC (equivalent to 400–850 Vickers).

Steel Shots For Blasting Operations

The steel shots used for blasting purposes are created using innovative projection and separation methods. Hence, they have a consistent shape and quality. The round build makes them the best option for removing rust, coatings, etc., from metal surfaces.  For fragile surfaces, the blasting media selected must be well decided, as it can damage them. Select the right grade of steel shots only after reviewing the material and the reason for blasting.

Manufacturing Process Of Steel Shot

Steel scraps of the highest quality are melted in an electric furnace. The now liquid steel is then turned into spherical particles with the use of high-pressure water jets. Steel shots don't usually have wear and tear, as they tend to get stronger and harder with repeated use. Blast Core provides the best quality and price for steel shots across the Middle East, making us one of the most dependable suppliers in the region.
